Hi, I’m J. 👋🏻
I started this project to give away 21 queer books in 2021.
Queer stories have played a huge part in understanding and finding comfort in claiming my queer, trans identity. This project is an opportunity for me to read and share more queer stories, support queer authors, and patronize local independent bookstores.
In return for a book I ask recipients to share a story with me. At the end of the year I plan to assemble these stories into a zine—zine participation is totally optional!
The story can be nearly anything you want to share!
It can be something personal…
It can be someone else’s work that really moved you (leave the copyright box unchecked)…
It can be original artwork (drop a link in the textbox)…
It can be what you had for breakfast 🤷🏻
Hateful stories will not be tolerated. This includes, but is not limited to:
Stories which reinforce social structures of domination related to gender, sexual orientation, disability, appearance, race, age, or religion.
Promoting or spreading disinformation, lies, or conspiracy theories against a person, group, organization, project, or community.
Sharing others’ private information, such as a physical or electronic address, without explicit permission.
This is not the place to share explict or pornographic stories, or imagery.
If you chose, you can grant permission for your story to be included in the TOP Zine.
Volume 1 of the TOP Zine is complete. A Contributor Edition of thirty has been printed and one copy sent out to each person that participated in year one of the project (mailed April 2022).
Open editions of Volume 1 will be made available to everyone in June.
Volume 2 will be what you make of it!
I am only shipping within Canada and to the United States.
Books ship free via Canada Post from Tkaronto, the traditional territory of many nations including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee, & the Wendat peoples; now home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit, & Métis peoples.
I can’t accept returns or exchanges, and I can’t guarantee shipping times.
You can help by sharing the project with your friends. I’m not on social media, and the project isn’t either…
This project is limited to what I can personally commit to doing myself. I am not looking to expand the project this year and I am not seeking financial support.
If you can afford to buy a book, don’t let that stop you from participating! I encourage you to shop additional books at your local independent book store.
If you still want to do more, direct giving has the most impact. @PayBlkTrnsWomen is one of my go-to sources to find individuals’ GoFundMe campaigns, and PayPal / Venmo / Cash app handles.
